Matthew McCabe
Founder / Accountant
Matthew’s journey began in hospitality, working in restaurants and bars throughout his teenage years before moving into accountancy in 2004 and qualifying with CIMA in 2007.
Alongside his early career, Matthew trained and performed in Musical Theatre, where he discovered the strong synergies between numbers and music. He believes the discipline, creativity, and resilience required of a professional performer are equally valuable in both accountancy and the hospitality industry.
In 2021, Matthew founded Amalgam Services to bring these complementary skills together. His goal is to create an environment where financial expertise and hospitality experience combine to deliver clear, practical, and insightful support for SMEs across the sector.

Craig Russell
Trainee Bookkeeper
Craig is a professionally trained actor who has worked in theatre, film and TV, and video games. During quiet times in both drama school and in his professional life, he has consistently returned to hospitality to keep busy and his brain switched on. For the past six years he has progressed through a London company so that when he returns now, he supports the management teams and has a company wide reputation for making a big mark on any team he periodically joins. Through his hospitality career Craig has gained 9 years of experience of operations on the ground, a real understanding of the effect that good team performance can have on a venue’s success, and a knowledge of back of house operations and how to keep a bar running.
Early in 2025, Craig joined Amalgam services as a trainee bookkeeper. He was always keen to get into the finance world since excelling in maths at school, and Amalgam is the perfect company to merge his ‘on the ground’ knowledge of bars, with the numeric problem solving skills that have always been a strength of his. He is able to bring in his calm and coherent communication from hospitality and acting, and work well with the wider team.
Craig is starting his AAT qualifications in line with his on the job learning at Amalgam.
